Phoenix's record run for dry days finally ends at 143 days. The last measured rain fell on October 18, 2005. Not only did the rain break the dry spell, the 1.40 inches that fell was a record amount for the date.?

An entire section of the town was swept away. Bodies or body parts were found up to 1 mi (1.6 km) away. This is the first of only two F5s to hit Tennessee, the other having struck Lawrence County on April 16, 1998.
